A Dark Fairytale

It was a fairytale-

With unhappy endings, unkept promises,

Broken hearts, and wishes come true too late

To be good. And of star-crossed lovers

Iris and Gabrielle, it spun a tale-

Seeds of a love so strong and dark,

It survived Her wrath.

And yet it couldn’t find a way back

To the lovers, before it met the end of time.

1ris.

I have lost all I had,

In a war that had never been mine

To win. Yet I had fought

To save my life, or my love-

Hard to say which is which,

Since both to me are now lost.

Yet no angel wings I see ‘fore me,

No broken feather; twisted fate

Has mocked me again and changed

What had been written on the stars.

No heaven’s gate closed before me, nor hell’s fire

Me consume, but the vastness ahead,

So dreary so dark, I long to weep!

But there are no tears,

For I have no eyes,

Nor have I my body to hold me high,

The me that has been inside

So long: weeping, torn and all alone, it has loved

None but you! Yet Gabrielle you leave

Me time and again to fight fate.

And I wait for you, hoping as I do,

That you win at your war

With Her and return to me,

A mortal, an angel,

Whichever She chooses for you to be.

Fallen, broken, I long to see you

This one last time, and feel your heart

Beat with mine,

That I may sleep in peace,

And merge into this nothingness…

GabrieIIe

My wings bleed- twisted and torn

Feathers leave their marks

Behind, and I hope that you wait

Like you always do

For my return. For my victory

Is for you, and oh! Here you lie,

So cold, so white, your tears run dry

And a feeble heart that echoes mine

And beats to a stop.

I weep, I cry, do you hear me no more?

Her fall, my win is nothing without you

By my side! And yet now you leave

Me when I return, won in war!

Fate mocks my love

As you lie dead in defeat,

And though I will otherwise,

My heart will always beat…
